While this might look like it is for the better good of the consumer it is actually grossly misleading. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/bcp\/edu\/pubs\/consumer\/alerts\/alt078.shtm\">read it here<\/a>.\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our comments are in brackets after the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) statement of &#8220;facts&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Headline: Pills that Prevent the Common Cold? A Tough Claim to Swallow <em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">(The only tough thing to swallow is the constant stream of BS coming out of Washington.)<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Can herbal or natural remedies prevent or cure the common cold? Some tablets, pills, and powders, sold in neighborhood stores and by national retailers, have been touted as products that can prevent or cure colds and fight germs in ads on radio and television, in national publications and in-flight magazines, and by celebrities. <em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>(How come the drug companies have unlimited advertising but it is some sort of a crime for supplements to do the same? What nonsense!)<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Attorneys for the Federal Trade Commission, the nation\u2019s consumer protection agency, say that these products simply don\u2019t live up to their hype. The marketers of these products lack the reliable scientific evidence required by law to back up the claims they make. <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>(<em>Since when does an FTC attorney have the education, skill or training to evaluate this outrageous and prejudiced statement? There may be no scientific evidence to prove that food is good for us either. How stupid can we get?) <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellnesstruthnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Cough-Male-iStock_000002145389XSmall1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-137\" title=\"Cough - Male - iStock_000002145389XSmall[1]\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wellnesstruthnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Cough-Male-iStock_000002145389XSmall1-e1291833484632.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Medical experts agree that there is no cure for the common cold. Indeed, the FTC is investigating \u2013 and has already sued \u2013 several marketers of products that claimed to prevent colds, fight germs, reduce the severity or duration of a cold, or protect against sickness in crowded places. <em>(<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>This should read: Medical experts with a big Pharma bias agree that there is no cure&#8230;The fact the FTC has sued several marketers is nothing to be proud of. The suppression of truthful information that could be beneficial to the consumer is a dereliction of duty.)<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The best defense against a cold is prevention through good hygiene like frequent hand washing and healthy habits like eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising. Should you have a cold, relief comes from drinking fluids, resting, and taking over-the-counter cold medicines that treat specific symptoms. <em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>(This is really the heart of this government propaganda. Despite the fact there is a federal law on the books, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dshea.org\/\">DSHEA<\/a>, that encourages the use of natural supplements, FTC censorship is in full bloom. <\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>This is a quote from the statute: &#8220;The importance of nutrition and the benefits of dietary supplements to health promotion and disease prevention have been documented increasingly in scientific studies&#8221; <\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The FTC in its infinite wisdom has decided that the only thing to take is cold medicines aka drugs.
