“People think ‘If I don’t experience any symptoms that means I’m not at risk,'” said Dr. Kevin Borst, a Cleveland Clinic endocrinologist. “Symptoms such as increased urination, thirst and weight loss don’t develop until there is relatively severe hyperglycemia [high blood sugar] and that’s five or 10 years down the line from when their lifestyle should have been changed.”
